  • Ability to sell to senior level executives in a sophisticated and creative manner
  • Required Skills
  • Successful national TV or local TV advertising sales experience to national advertisers
  • Experience presenting and selling on-air advertising and or interactive online advertising to national advertising agencies and clients
  • A polished, intelligent, self motivated, creative and pro-active professional with strong communication skills
  • The capacity to convey the Network's youth oriented (12-24) - (18-34) programming and audience to the senior most decision makers within advertising agencies and client companies

    Job Description Summary

    Leading Entertainment Cable TV Network as a division of the World's leading media and entertainment conglomerate with approximately 100 million subs seeks a Director of Sales Planning and Sales Operations aka Director Revenue Management.

    This network executive will be based in Chicago working for one of the most noted and profitable brands in television broadcasting today.

    The primary focus of this job is to strategically and tactically increase efficiency from an operational perspective in sales services to position the Network for growth.  This person should enjoy looking at "process" and the way people work and improving performance to enhance Network sales. Needed is a seasoned person who enjoys taking control by utilizing their management skills.   A strategic person who understands the tactical and strategic balance required to manage sales planners.  Prior experience supervising sales planners is required. 

    The firm offers growth, stability, synergy and strength with their other TV, Motion Picture, Digital, Music, Radio and Publishing divisions.   The Senior Vice President of Network Operations is an outstanding executive and gentleman who takes great pride in developing and growing his staff.  He is seeking a broadcasting professional who knows how to manage and mentor sales services personnel and the related sales planning process.

    Responsibilities

    Staff Training

    Responsible for facilitating all operational functions for sales assistants, sales planners and account executives.  This will include input on systems, process and actual planning procedures.  This person will reinforce procedures and excellence in the planning and schedule maintenance process. 

    A person who enjoys teaching and motivating others.

    Planning

  • Ability to quickly review plans prior to being presented to the account manager for submittal to the client/agency.
  • Accurately monitoring the reweigh/remix of all Upfront plans.
  • Facilitate the distribution of all MSA’s as well as overseeing client receipt of them in a timely fashion.
  • Monitoring/approving re-expressions of dollars.
  • Monitoring/approving all sell-off requests.
  • Monitoring/approving all cutbacks
  • Monitoring/approving all planning rates
  • Monitoring/approving the distribution of ADU schedules
  • Monitor and prioritize sales planners’ workload and distribute work accordingly.
  • Supervise all sales assistant and sales planners.
  • Providing post summaries of all accounts
  • Handling excess inventory and oversell situations
  • Consultation and interaction with account executive regarding research material, programming, added-value (vignettes, billboards) advertising needs.
  • Interaction with network traffic department to gauge inventory availability, restrictions, specials, etc in determining make-up of proposal.
  • Liaison with various departments on client's behalf when requested.
  • Keep abreast of industry news via “trades” to increase and strengthen knowledge of position and get a general/broad understanding of what's going on in the industry.
  • Resolve order/invoice-billing discrepancies.
  • Invoicing: research discrepancy, advise client, management, and finance by correspondence on results and if necessary adjusting.
  • Daily review of national missed spot list to modify accounts by either makegoods or clients.
  • Client correspondence as necessary.

  • Weekly group meeting with supervisor/staff to discuss weekly activity, resolve problems, and forecast.
    Required Skills
  • Network Sales Services, Sales Planning, Sales Operations or Revenue Management experience in a management capacity.
  • The management and motivation of sales services staff in a Cable TV Network.
  • This person must know what it is to improve performance from the start to the finish of the sales support process.
  • A commitment to developing staff to learn and grow, to the betterment of The Network, The Employee and The Client.
  • A person who enjoys improving process and operations in a TV broadcast sales environment.
  • A person who understands the tactical and strategic needs of a TV Network Sales organization.

  • Must have experience managing sales planning personnel.

    Responsibilities and Functions
     

  • Provide quantitative and qualitative analyses, actionable recommendations and presentations to best position The TV Network as a preferred network of choice for client's business 
  • Organize and compile media research that supports the client's marketing buy based on their goals 
  • Strong  reading, writing, communication, and media math skills 
  • A knowledge base of different types of media and media platforms and how they compliment each other in an integrated marketing buy 
  • Develop high quality research materials in these areas: Target market and consumer segmentation, forecasting and trend analysis, media and advertising effectiveness 
  • Keep abreast of various current marketing and media trends 
  • Seek, analyze and use media data to prepare compelling marketing and sales materials 
  • Maintain and build relationships with internal and external contacts and resources 
  • Meet tight and often times changing deadlines 
  • Work independently as well as in a team setting 

  • Miscellaneous projects and tasks as requested by Vice President
    Required Skills
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the marketing and media research field within a media organization 
  • Strong experience within research methodologies used in analyzing TV media data 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Advertising Research or equivalent is required; Master’s degree is preferred 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Nielsen, MMR/MRI, Adviews, Simmons, NPower, MarketBreaks and Startrack/Multi-track 

  • Excellent presentation skills; ability to present materials to both internal and external customers of the TV Network
